Did you know that there are more IKEA catalogues printed than bibles each year ? Hallelujah! Some love IKEA for cheap but more or less well designed furniture and even cheaper hotdogs, while others are a little more critical towards the mega forest munching concern. One of said critics is a truck driver named Emilian. The Romanian told the BBC that he drives for IKEA (but of course he is not employed by the company directly but by an affiliate of it) through Europe. He earns just €477 per month which means that he can’t afford even cheap hotels or restaurant visits. This means he lives for a month in his uncomfortable truck, sleep in the drivers seat and cooks on the roadside. But Emilian can thank his lucky stars that he is not from Moldova as these drivers earn just €150 per month. Confronted with the reports an IKEA spokesperson said that there are “high requirements” for its affiliates. One of them is needless to say, to be as cheap as possible. This should remind us all that somebody is paying the price for very cheap products and it’s their employees. (and the natural world of course). Why is it when these massive corporations make huge profits by avoiding paying the relevant taxes, they still feel the need to fuck their staff. It’s not just the Apples of the world with their Chinese suicide inducing production lines, it’s pretty much everyone and that ladies and gentlemen is modern “business”.
