A Twitter thread by Mark Whyte, aka @LeftywokeMark …on voting for the UK Labour Party

I am really getting fed up with the “If you don’t vote for Labour you are enabling the Tories to Rule “Brigade, so I am going to say my piece.

Labour under Corbyn ignited a fire in me so great, even though I had been a lifelong Labour voter (I’m 55 y.o) and had never actively campaigned before. Jeremy sold me a dream that at times had me crying with emotion.

Here was a man who was completely different to any politician I’d seen before. He was honest. He was kind. He had empathy. He wanted to help everyone and he could not be bought.
He just seemed more determined than other leaders to oust the Tories and mend what was wrong in the UK. In 2017 we came to within 2 thousand votes of winning.
This was despite the efforts of numerous MP’s (not just the Tories and other parties, but also in the Labour Party ffs) to discredit him.

Why would they do that?

I just couldn’t make it out.
I also witnessed people on here (Twitter) and FB openly stating that they couldn’t vote Labour while he was leader.
Why?
As far as they were concerned I think the media had done the job on them too, but the MP’s were a different reason.

They knew Corbyn was a decent man who would stop MP’s 2nd jobs and stop the overclaiming of expenses.

Basically, the gravy train would stop under him and they would have to do some work for their salary. But the Labour voters swallowed what the media and MP’s said.
These middle-class centrist neoliberal voters posing as socialists, which seemed like the latest trendy thing for them to call themselves, thought that Jeremy would come for their money too. After all, that’s what the papers told them.

Then there was all the other BS regarding antisemitism, he was the man incapable of being PM.

Even though he was so close in 2017, the screws were tightened still further in 2019. Everyone threw everything at him, doorstepping this man repeatedly, he never got a minutes let up.

It’s no wonder that Labour didn’t win. The very MP’s that were supposed to be supporting him together with the “lifelong” Labour voters openly stating on TV they couldn’t vote for him.

All this despite 9 f*ck*ng years of austerity and thousands killed during them.

So, we’re now left with a Labour party full of the same MP’s that openly opposed Jeremy and ENABLED the Tories to get back in again.
These gravy train riding, OTT expense claiming, Israeli apartheid regime supporting leeches who now want our vote.

Why is that?

What will they do with it?

Will they suddenly start to tax the richest and corporations properly to make the lives of the poor better?

No.

Will they stop the PFI in the NHS?

No.

Will they start to support the Palestinian cause?

No.

Will they honestly complete the radical change necessary to help the poor FOR GOOD?

No.

They need this continuous cycle of Capitalism, war, and consumerism to continue to supply them with the money they crave.
They are just like the Tories, and they want my vote.

Well, they cannot have it.

Not until they prove that their intentions are good.

Not until I KNOW that EVERYONE, not just the rich, will be looked after.

So if you call me a Tory enabler now,  you probably were one at the last GE or the one in 2017.

You’re just someone who is saying “I want a better world but as long as I don’t have to suffer for it.”

The truth is, under Corbyn you wouldn’t have had to.

Only the rich would have had less… but they would still have been rich.

My vote will NEVER go to the Tories but it sure as hell will not go to Labour as it is today for all of the above.
Sorry its long winded, rambling and probably boring to some but it’s how I feel. And I’m mighty pissed.

Goodnight.

Following morning on Twitter

Wow.
Well that attracted far more attention than I thought it would.
Thanks for the replies. Especially the support. It means a lot to know there are so many out there who feel the same.
So those who are let’s say ‘not supportive’ want to know what I’ll do.

I think I did explain that toward the end and in some replies.
I will only vote Labour if the whip is restored to JC AND Starmer apologises and welcomes socialists back into the party.
This is unlikely so I will vote for any socialist independent candidate or socialist party such as the Breakthrough Party if they are represented in my area.
Those of you opposing my views in the main thread do not realise that this constant cycle of Tories destroying the UK, then Labour putting plasters on it, only for the Tories to get back in again isn’t helping the poor long term.
Radical change is needed where the rich get taxed to f***.
“Oh but the rich will leave the UK”, I hear you cry.
No they won’t.

They’ll still be making enough and if they do then someone else will step into that field and take the opportunity.

Thank you.

We use sites that we have studied for some time and monitored for integrity and we don’t use sites that we have seen which either spin or lie their way to the front page. Everybody is biased in some way or they aren’t breathing, but Bias and Bollocks are not the same thing.

People that tell the truth are quite easy to find because they cite references and sources to back up what they say. The opposite is also true.
